Spartans Fall in SSC Tournament Title Game
TAMPA, Fla. - In the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Tournament championship, No. 4 seed Eckerd College overcome the No. 2 seed University of Tampa Spartans with a final score of 65-57.
Tampa's offense was led by Sarah Jones and Zoe Piller, each contributing 15 points. Piller stood out with her 6-for-12 shooting from the field and grabbing 7 rebounds, marking her as one of the team's top performers.
Audrey Ramsey also played a pivotal role for the Spartans, netting 12 points and facilitating the offense with 6 assists.
Mya Giusto orchestrated the offense with 5 assists and added 7 points while Kath Van Bennekom contributed 8 points, including two crucial three-pointers
The Tampa Spartans showed promise early on, leading by 4 points at one juncture in the first quarter and going on a 7-0 run, their largest of the game. However, the Eckerd Tritons responded as Tampa would trail for over 30 minutes of the game.
The Spartans managed to force 17 turnovers, translating into 23 points off turnovers.
UT now awaits word on its fate for the 2024 NCAA Tournament, with the Spartans expected to earn their fifth straight NCAA bid.
