VALDOSTA, Ga. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team opened NCAA South Regional play with a 76-70 victory over Embry-Riddle University to advance to the regional semifinals.
Embry-Riddle started off strong in the first quarter, taking a three-point lead, but Tampa battled back to take the lead by halftime. The game remained close throughout, with both teams trading baskets and defensive stops.
For Embry-Riddle, Madyson Jean-Louis led the scoring with 22 points, while Mary Lengemann contributed 20 points off the bench.
Despite their efforts, Tampa's balanced scoring attack proved to be too much for Embry-Riddle (FL) to overcome.
Tampa had four players scoring in double figures, with Zoe Piller and Mya Giusto each putting up 16 points. Audrey Ramsey and Sarah Jones added 14 and 15 points, respectively, to help secure the win for Tampa.
With the win, Tampa improved its record to 29-6 overall while Embry-Riddle dropped to 20-10. The win marked the fourth of the 2023-24 season for Tampa over the Eagles.
