Spartans Women's Basketball Announces 2024-25 Season Schedule
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Women's Basketball team has finalized their schedule for the 2024-2025 season. Coming off another dominant season, the Spartans enter this year looking to continue their tradition of success. The 2023-24 season saw UT win 30+ games for the second straight season and the Spartans made yet another deep run the NCAA tournament. But after falling short of a fourth straight Sunshine State Conference championship and being one game away from the NCAA DII Final Four last season, this year's squad has the motivation to improve upon last year's incredible run.
The Spartans will start their quest to reclaim the top spot in the SSC with a home exhibition matchup on October 16th against St. Petersburg College. This contest will be fans only chance to see the team take the court until November 8th as the Spartans will hit the road 2 and half weeks. During this road trip UT will first travel to Tallahassee, FL on October 23rd to take on Florida State in what will be a great test early in the year for coach Tom Jessee's team. Following their matchup with the Seminoles, UT will head way out west to play in the 2024 CCA DII Canadian Tip-Off Classic held in Langley, British Colombia, Canada. This will be the second year in a row Tampa's Women's Basketball team will compete in the CCA's Tip Off tournament but the first time the program will be playing in Canada.
While in Canada the Spartans will play three games in three days, starting with Seatle Pacific University (WA) on November 1st at 1:30pm ET. On November 2nd the Spartans will face St. Edwards University (TX) at 3:15pm ET and on November 3rd, UT will finish CCA Canadian Tip Off play at 6:00pm ET when they take on the hosts of this year's tournament Simon Fraser University (BC, CA). While a trip to Canada sounds like a vacation, the Spartans understand that it is a business trip, with the goal of sweeping their games and coming home 3-0 to start the year.
After nearly three weeks on the road, UT will come home for a seven-game home stand starting with the Spartans official home opener on Friday November 8th against Clark Atlanta University (GA) at 1:00pm. After the home opener the Spartans will play Central State (OH) on Saturday, November 9th at 1:00pm. From November 16th to the 30th the Spartans will face Southeastern Oklahoma State on the 16th at 2:00pm, Georgian Court University on the 26th at 5:00pm, Concord University (WV) on the 29th at 7:00pm and lastly on the 30th, the University of Mary (ND) at 4:00pm. The final game of this home stand will also kick off Sunshine State Conference play for the Spartans as Florida Southern will travel to the Bob on December 4th at 4:00pm.
Just a few days after the Spartans home conference opener they will travel to St. Leo University for their first conference away game on December 7th at 2:00pm. UT will then get one last look at a SSC conference opponent in the 2024 calendar year when Lynn University travels to Tampa on December 14th at 2:00pm. The Spartans will close out 2024 by traveling to Melbourne, FL December 20th and 21st for the FIT Holiday Classic. Ut will face Clayton State University (GA) and Flagler University with tip off for both contests set for 2:00pm.
Once the calendar hits 2025, the University of Tampa's women's basketball team will begin the gauntlet that is the Sunshine State Conference. From January 1st to February 26th, the Spartans will play every Wednesday and Saturday against conference foes. Key conference home games that fans should have circled on their calendars are Wednesday, February 5th at 5:30pm against reigning SSC regular season champs Nova Southeastern, Wednesday, February 12th at 5:30pm against the reigning SSC conference tournament champs Eckerd College, and finally senior day is scheduled for Saturday, February 15th at 2:00pm against Embry-Riddle.
The Spartans will conclude the regular season at home on Wednesday, February 26th against Barry University. Following the regular season, UT will compete in the Sunshine State Conference tournament from March 4th to the 9th where they will try and clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Spartans have been regulars at the NCAA tournament for over a decade and will look to be there again when NCAA South Region starts on March 14th.
