Bio

Former Spartan standout Elena de Alfredo rejoined the Spartan coaching staff prior to the 2022-23 season, having previously spent two seasons on the coaching staff following a highly successful career as a student-athlete for Tampa.

In her current role, de Alfredo has helped the Spartans achieve two NCAA tournament appearances and win the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) tournament championship in 2023. She has also led player development efforts, contributing to the success of award-winning players such as Audrey Ramsey, Mya Giusto, Sarah Jones and Melijah Sullivan, amongst others.

Her additional duties include scouting, guiding practice players, game-day and practice planning/strategy, assist with basketball operations such as team travel/meals/activities, international recruiting, day-to-day operations, and assisting with social media, creative content, and team-building activities.

De Alfredo was part of the 2022-23 coaching staff that led the Spartans to a school-record 33 victories, culminating in the program's first-ever NCAA South Regional title. The team also captured its fourth consecutive SSC championship and dominated NCAA South Region play, defeating its three opponents by a combined total of 63 points. She coached two first-team All-SSC performers, Sydney Kin and Melijah Sullivan, with Kin also earning first-team All-American honors and finishing as the national leader in field goal percentage.

De Alfredo continued her success in the 2023-24 season, as part of the coaching staff that led the Spartans to back-to-back Regional Championships.

Between her stints with the Spartans, de Alfredo worked as a player development coach, training both professional players and young athletes aged 4 to 18.

She previously served as an assistant coach on Tom Jessee's staff during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, helping the Spartans achieve a 22-9 record and an NCAA tournament appearance in the 2018-19 campaign.

As a player for the Spartans from 2015-17, de Alfredo had an outstanding senior season, earning first-team All-Sunshine State Conference honors. She was also recognized as a second-team D2CCA All-South Region selection and excelled academically, being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Averaging 14.9 points per game in the 2016-17 season, she started all 28 games as the point guard and was named SSC Player of the Week on January 23. De Alfredo finished the season with a 46.9 percent shooting percentage from three-point range, 44.4 percent from the field, and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.

De Alfredo departed as the University of Tampa's all-time leader in both three-point and free-throw percentages. A team captain for the Spartans from 2015-17, she was also selected as the 2016-17 representative for the UT Royal Guard of Honor.

She joined the Spartans for the 2015-16 season after playing two seasons at the University of Toledo. In her first season at Tampa, she was recognized as a member of the SSC All-Newcomer Team, averaging 11.7 points per game. Starting all 31 games, she scored 16 points in the NCAA South Regional opening round against No. 9 Union and recorded two double-doubles in SSC contests against Rollins and Barry.

A former Spanish National Team basketball player, de Alfredo was a European Champion Gold Medalist in 2009 and 2013 and a Bronze Medalist in 2011. She represented Spain in five European Championships, two World Championships, the BAM International Tournament, and the Youth Olympic Games. She also played professionally for Movistar Estudiantes, where she spent eight years and competed in the first league for four years.

Prior to her collegiate career, de Alfredo averaged 12.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals for Spain’s U-18 national team, which placed fifth at the 2012 European Championship. She shot 48.8% from the field, including 22-45 from three-point range in nine games, scoring in double figures in six games and ranking third in the tournament in field goal percentage, including a 19-point performance against Turkey.

A native of Madrid, Spain, de Alfredo received her degree in Communications from the University of Tampa. She later earned a Master's Degree in Instructional Design and Technology from UT in 2019.
