Season Opener in the Books as Women's Golf Concludes Lady Falcon Invitational
Junior Jess Wild leads Spartans in first tournament.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's golf team opened its 2016-17 campaign at the Lady Falcon Invitational, which was hosted by Daytona State College.
The two-round event was played at the LPGA International Golf Course, with a round on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tampa shots rounds of 338 and 334, finishing with a 672. Host Daytona State won the team title, carding a 589. Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech was second with a 603. Seminole State (608), Florida Southern (617) and Florida Atlantic (628) rounded out the top five.
Junior Jess Wild was the top finisher for UT, as she registered consistent rounds of 79 and 79 to finish at 158. In her first tourney of the season, Wild finished 21st overall.
Also competing for Missey Jones' Spartans were Holly Cannon (167), Katelin Lawson (171), Kensi Olson (176) and Lauren Fantaroni (187).
Tampa returns to action at the Guy Harvey Invitational on October 9-11. Nova Southeastern University will host the two-round tourney at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
