Tampa’s Streak Snapped With Loss To No. 11 Queens
TAMPA, Fla - The Tampa Spartans dropped a game to No. 11 Queens Royals Sunday afternoon at Naimoli Family Athletic Complex by a score of 15-4.
Following the loss the Spartans drop to 3-4 on the year and has its three game winning streak ended. Headed in the opposite direction, the Royals advance to 4-2 on the year.
Action picked up right out of the gate with the Queens taking an early 2-0 lead. Shannon Sweeney would answer back for Tampa off an Amanda Rom assist minutes later to draw within one.
The Royals would then go on a 8-1 run to take an 10-2 lead into halftime.
Coach Gallagher's team came out determined in the second half, and buckled down only allowing five goals.
But the Spartans weren't able to generate many scoring, and eventually the defecit was to much for Tampa to overcome.
The Tampa attack was led by Amanda Voges who netted two goals along with an assist. Natalie Carraway and Sweeney also recorded goals of their own. The four goal effort by UT was the lowest in program history.
The five determining factors of the game came down to fouls, shots, extra man opportunities, free position shots, and turnovers. The Royals won each of these categories on the day and the Spartans payed heavily for it. Tampa committed 32 fouls to Queens 15, and were outshot 29-19. QU made the most of their opportunites by coverting two out of three on their extra man opportunities and were 5-12 on free position shots. Also UT committed 19 turnovers with 12 coming in the first half alone.
