Tampa Gears up to Take on Eagles in Weekend Contest
Tampa, Fla - The University of Tampa Spartans welcome the Shorter University Eagles to the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex Saturday.
Tampa comes into the match sporting a 4-6 record. Last time out the Spartans dropped a close game to the SCAD Bees 19-15. Shorter enters the contest with a 2-4 mark on the year. The Hawks were also defeated in their last game, getting crushed at home 19-9 by Shephard.
The Spartans' offense is very balanced and hard to defend as seven different players have double-digit goal totals. UT avarages 11.5 goals, 14.9 draw controls and 5.5 assist per game. The dynamic attack features a triple threat in Amanda Voges, Mackenzie Perna, and Emilie Barbosa. Voges leads the team with 29 goals Perna, and Barbosa round out the trio recording 14 and 11 goals respectively. Tampa's succsess begins with Amanda Rom who leads the team with 61 draw controls. She has also tallied 12 goals on the year. Freshman Natalie Carraway is also a key component of the offense as her 12 assists lead the team. Carraway isn't just a facilitator she has also registered seven goals of her own.
Defensively Tampa brings their A game, the Spartan defense is led by Amanda Parker, Amanda Rom and Amanda Voges. Both Rom and Voges lead the team in caused turnovers (12) and Rom leads in ground balls (18). Amanda Parker rounds out the trio with her seven caused turnovers and 17 groundballs. UT has gone with a committee of goalies this season with a majority of the minutes going to Vala Molamusa. The team averages 9.9 saves, 6.9 caused turnovers and 17.3 groundballs per game. The Spartans have also posted a clearance rate of .739 on the season.
