Spartans Bit By Panthers
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa Spartans dropped a home contest Saturday night to the Florida Tech Panthers, by a final score of 20-10. The loss moves Tampa to 5-10, and 0-3 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Florida Tech improves to 7-6, and 1-1 in SSC play.
After the Spartans scored a quick goal just 26 seconds into the game, the Panthers went on a run, as they would score the next nine goals to take a big 9-1 lead. UT would score the next two goals to head into halftime with a 9-3 deficit.
UT started the second half on a positive note, as back-to-back goals as Mackenzie Perna and Amanda Voges pulled Tampa within five goals. However, FIT would respond with two goals themselves to halt the UT comeback. The Panthers scored five out of the seven final goals to earn the 10 goal victory.
Voges led the way for Tampa with five points, as she recorded four goals and an assists in the conference game. Christina Burroughs, Natalie Carraway, Mackenzie Perna, Amanda Rom, Shannon Sweeney, and Kirsten Brierley each recorded goals on the night.
Before the game, Brierley and Katie Delaney were honored with a senior day ceremony.
Tampa will be back in action on Wednesday, as they host the Florida Southern Moccasins in their regular season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
