Panthers Outlast Spartans on Senior Day
The UT women's lacrosse team mounted a five-goal second half comeback attempt, but was unable to stymie Florida Tech on Saturday's game.
TAMPA, Fla. – Despite scoring five goals in the second half of play, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse team fell to Florida Tech by a 9-6 final score on Saturday at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
The Spartans continue their season with a 3-9 overall record and drop to 0-3 in Sunshine State Conference play while the visiting Panthers improve to 9-4, 1-0 in SSC action.
Senior Caili Guilday (3-9) posted a season-high 17 saves in the outing, notching another season-best save percentage of .654 despite the outcome. The goalkeeper added four ground balls and a caused turnover while thwarting all six of the Panthers free position attempts.
Attacker Amanda Voges recorded her sixth hat-trick of the season, converting three free position shots to lead UT in scoring. Sophomore Amanda Rom added a pair of goals to her credit while leading the Spartans on the draw by securing four draw controls. Freshman Caroline Forester scored the final goal for Tampa, scooping up a ground ball along the way. Fellow freshman Rachel Crawford was the lone Spartan to record an assist, aiding Rom in the second half.
The Tampa defenders totaled seven caused turnovers while combining for six ground balls. UT converted 17-of-22 clears while Florida Tech was successful on 13-of-19 attempts.
Florida Tech was led by a four-goal outing from Caroline Dunleavy while leading-scorer Sara Grenier added a hat-trick and an assist to add four points to her credit.
Panthers' goalkeeper Stephanie Stuart (9-4) earned the win, picking up 10 saves while allowing six goals.
Tampa will play its final home contest of the season on Wednesday, April 13, welcoming Ave Maria for a 7:30 p.m. game at the Naimoli Complex. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be made available through www.tampaspartans.com.
