Spartans Host Ave Maria in Wednesday Matchup
The Tampa women's lacrosse team will play its final home game on Wednesday as it welcomes the Gyrenes for a 7:30 p.m. start.
TAMPA, Fla. – For its final home game of the 2016 season, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse team is poised to host Ave Maria University for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
The Spartans enter the meeting with a 3-9 overall record while the visiting Gyrenes own a 5-6 season tally.
UT fell by a 9-6 final score to Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech on Saturday. Senior Caili Guilday had a season-best performance despite the outcome, saving 17 shots on goal for a save percentage of .654. The goalkeeper added four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Junior Amanda Voges scored three goals against the Panthers, all coming from free position attempts. Sophomore Amanda Rom added a pair of goals to her credit while freshman Caroline Forester netted the final goal for Tampa.
The Gyrenes fell 16-9 to fellow NAIA program Savannah College of Art and Design in their most recent matchup. Leading-scorer Mackenzie Tourville totaled four goals for Ave Maria while Alexis Smich mirrored with her own four-goal outing. Tourville added six draw controls and three ground balls as one of the most dominating athletes on the field. Goalkeeper Hannah Camerota recorded nine saves while surrendering 16 goals in the loss for the Gyrenes.
The contest marks the first meeting between the two squads, as Ave Maria will close its 2016 season on the road. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be provided through www.tampaspartans.com.
