
The University of Tampa Women's Lacrosse Team is Set to Host The University of Montevallo
The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team looks to advance to 3-2 with a win over the Montevallo Falcons.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will host the University of Montevallo Falcons on Saturday, at 12 p.m. This meeting marks the first matchup between the two universities.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (2-2) vs. University of Montevallo (3-3)
Date/Time: Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m.
Last Time Out: Tampa defeated the Young Harris College Mountain Lions 16-3 in the it's home opener. Senior Amanda Voges, carried the offense with five total goals. In doing so, Voges became the university's first women's lacrosse player to score 100+ career goals. Following Voges, the Spartans were led by Cali Edgar with two goals, and Amanda Rom with two goals and two assists. Also on offense, Rachel Crawford, Paige Johnson, and Mallary Weinsz all recorded their first goals of the 2017 season. The Spartans were led on defense by Abby Coccagna and Emily Stevenson who collectively held the Mountain Lions from scoring on seven different occasions.
About the Spartans: The Spartans finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-10, and made it to the Sunshine State Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Going into the 2017 season, they return their top three offensive weapons, Voges, Carraway, and Rom. Voges was also a 2016 Second-Team All-SSC selection. Nine freshman join the Spartans this year. Combined, Claire Swanson, Maggie Gladden, and Carly Vaccaro have 15 of the Spartan's total 50 goals on the season.
About the Falcons: The Falcons are currently 3-3, 1-3 in the Gulf South Conference. The team is led offensively by sophomore Jami Hudak with 20 goals, junior Lauren Duckworth with 15 goals, and freshman Alyssa Kaminski with 13 goals. Additionally, the Falcons return sophomore defensive players Tatiana Samuel and Jessica Culver who have 30 blocked goals between the two of them. Sophomore Irfana Ahmed returns as the Falcons starting goal keeper with an average save percentage of 50.8%.
Series History: This meeting marks the first matchup between the University of Tampa Spartans and the University of Montevallo Falcons.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
