Spartans Continue SSC Play Against Mocs
The University of Tampa is set to host Florida Southern College to continue Sunshine State Conference play.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will host the Florida Southern College Mocs on Saturday, at 1 p.m. The meeting marks the fifth matchup between the two universities, Florida Southern having won the previous four.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (5-8, SSC 0-1) vs. Florida Southern College (13-2, SSC 2-0)
Date/Time: Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
- In the last meeting, on April 29, 2016, the University of Tampa fell to Florida Southern College by a score of 19-10. In the match-up, Natalie Carraway had four goals and Abby Coccagna had three draw controls with two ground balls.
Last Time Out: The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team traveled to the Queens University Royals. The Spartans fell to the Royals by a score of 19-7, the game was ended with 8:45 left in the second period due to weather. In the game, junior Amanda Rom reached her 100th career point, she is the second Spartans to reach this milestone. Senior, Amanda Voges led the team in goals with three. In goal, Mackenzie Hackett had three saves. Freshman, Claire Swanson led the team in draw controls with six.
About the Spartans: The Spartans finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-10, and made it to the Sunshine State Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Going into the 2017 season, they return their top three offensive weapons, Voges, Natalie Carraway, and Amanda Rom. Voges was also a 2016 Second-Team All-SSC selection. Nine freshmen join the Spartans this year. Combined, Claire Swanson, Maggie Gladden, and Carly Vaccaro have 44 of the Spartan's total 166 goals on the season.
About the Mocs: The Mocs finished the 2016 season as the NCAA National Champions. Currently, the Mocs are 13-2 overall, with an SSC record of 2-0. Meghan O'Brien leads the Mocs offense with 55 total points this season, 38 goals and 17 assists. Taylor Gillis and Alanna Zambetti split time in goal for the Mocs, combined they have a save percentage of .446. The strong offense is sparked by Dani Bursinger with 90 draw controls thus far.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens, and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
