No. 13 Tampa bulldozes their way through Lee

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans women's lacrosse team demolish Lee University at home on Friday night.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: No.13 University of Tampa Spartans 22,  Lee University Flames 4

Records: Tampa (3-3), Lee (3-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: The Spartans got started early finding the back of the net within the first 30 seconds. From there, they kept it rolling scoring back-to-back goals within two minutes of each other. The Spartans applied lots of defensive pressure and it paid off allowing them to easily score on offense. After a goal by Lee, the Spartans never stopped pushing scoring another goal in the last two minutes of the quarter. Sarah Hinkle and Madison Birch guided Tampa with two goals each. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

14:34 – Madison Birch, assisted by Olivia Mott

13:15 – Lizzie Pierpont, assisted by Christina Romano

10:42 – Madison Birch, unassisted

10:01 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted by Lizzie Pierpont

8:13 – Sarah Hinkle, unassisted

2:19 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

Score: 6-2 (Tampa)

Second Quarter: The second quarter started the same way. Both teams committed continuous fouls which slowed the game down. Even with this, Tampa still brought intensity scoring six goals this quarter. Despite dominating the quarter, Tampa wasn't finished yet with Olivia Mott scoring a buzzer beater with one second left. Tampa went into halftime with a great deal of energy ready to let it loose in the third quarter. Hinkle, Cece Colombo, and Mott controlled the quarter scoring two goals each. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

7:57 – Sarah Hinkle, unassisted

4:41 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

4:07 – Cece Colombo, assisted by Madison Birch

Score: 12-3 (Tampa)

Third Quarter: Tampa started the third releasing their second quarter energy bulldozing their way through Lee. They scored four goals within seconds of each other and continued their scoring flow the entire way. Tampa then found themselves leading by ten, the largest lead of the game. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

13:29 – Madison Birch, unassisted

12:04 – Dani Waters, unassisted

10:52 – Brynn Nestor, assisted by Olivia Mott

9:44 – Olivia Mott, assisted by Cece Colombo

6:07 – Lizzie Pierpont, assisted by Olivia Mott

0:44 – Lizzie Pierpont, unassisted

Score: 18-3 (Tampa)

Fourth Quarter: The Spartans continued to control the game only allowing Lee to score once this quarter. They bullied their way to goal scoring four goals to end the game. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

12:04 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

3:46 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

0:52 – Gracie Colombo, unassisted

Final: 22-4 (Tampa)

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Tampa had five players with a hattrick or better: Sarah Hinkle (4), Cece Colombo (4), Lizzie Pierpont (3), Olivia Mott (3), Madison Birch (3)

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Tampa had more groundballs than Lee, 20-8
• Mott had a season high of four assist
