GAMEDAY ADVANCE: No. 12 Tampa takes on No. 24 St. Leo in SSC Tournament Semifinals

TAMPA, Fla – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team compete against St. Leo in the SSC Tournament semifinals.

The Matchup: #12 University of Tampa (10-6, SSC 6-1) vs. #24 St. Leo University (7-10, SSC 4-3)

Date/Time: Thursday April 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

Location: Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. 1120 West North A Street, Tampa, FL 33606

Series History: Tampa is currently on a seven game win streak against St. Leo with their recent win being on April 2 at home with a final score of 20-8. They set a new margin of victory against St. Leo with that victory winning by 12 points. This upcoming game marks the first meeting between Tampa and St. Leo in the conference tournament.

About the Spartans: The Spartans come into this matchup having beat No.16 Lynn in a comeback win clinching their third regular-season championship and claiming the No.1 seed in the tournament. After tying then being down going into halftime, the Spartans found a way to push through slowly taking away Lynn's lead and coming out with the win. Sarah Hinkle led that game with four goals and Alex Walling racked up 14 saves. The Spartans look to maintain their momentum in their matchup as they take on St. Leo and advance in the SSC Tournament, extending their win streak.

About the Lions: The Lions come into this game having upset No.17 Embry-Riddle to punch their ticket into the SSC Tournament with the No.4 seed. This will be St. Leo's first conference tournament appearance since 2015. Their game against Embry-Riddle was close, but the Lions got the edge over them before halftime putting them up by two. Kaci Archer led the way with six goals.  Rachel Smythe ended the game with 16 saves allowing St. Leo to secure the win. The Lions look to keep their energy up going into this matchup and advance in the SSC Tournament.
