Three Spartans Earn USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American Honors
TAMPA, Fla. - USA Lacrosse Magazine has announced its Preseason All-Americans and Top 20 rankings for the 2023 Division II women's season. The University of Tampa has three players named as Preseason All-Americans and find themselves ranked inside the Top 10.
Cece Colombo, who was the team's leader in draw controls last season, was named to the First-Team. Dani Waters found herself a spot on the Third-Team after collecting 45 groundballs a season ago. Lizzie Pierpont, was an Honorable Mention after posting career highs in goals, assists, and points.
The Spartans find themselves ranked ninth heading into the 2023 season. Tampa is one of three teams from the Sunshine State Conference ranked in the top 10 and trail only Florida Southern. There are a total of five SSC teams ranked in the Top 20. The Spartans open up the season on the road and will face opponents in Montevallo and Alabama Huntsville. Tampa will return for its home opener on February 18th versus Lincoln Memorial.
This marks the 47th consecutive week that the Spartans have been ranked, including the fifth straight appearance in the preseason poll.
