GAMEDAY ADVANCE: No.4 Spartans go toe to toe with No.8 Rollins this Weekend

TAMPA, Fla – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team go toe to toe with No.8 Rollins.

The Matchup: #4 University of Tampa (12-2, 4-0 SSC) vs. #8 Rollins University (13-1, 3-1 SSC)

Date/Time: Saturday, April 15, 2023  at 12:00 p.m.

Series History: The Spartans are down by four games in the series history with a record of 4-8. Their largest margin of victory came in their last matchup on April 16, 2022 with a final score of 18-10.

 

About the Spartans: The Spartans go into this matchup with a dominant win under their belt against Palm Beach Atlantic with a final score of 23-4. The Spartans got out in front early taking a huge lead of seven points at the end of the first. From there, the goal looked huge for the Spartans as they were sinking almost every shot they were attempting. Multiple Spartans contributed to the team's in. Sarah Hinkle led the team with a new season-high of six goals while Lizzie Pierpont was right behind her with four goals. Julia Kolderman led the team with four assists, Alyssa Romano led with four groundballs and Erin McLoughlin with five draw controls. The Spartans look to continue their dominance against a Top 10 opponent on their home turf.

 

About the Tars: The Tars also come into this matchup after returning to the winning column after defeating Lynn on their home field. Lynn opened the game scoring but the Tars quickly answered back. The first quarter was back and forth as each team traded goals. For the remainder of the game, Rollins took control taking their first lead in the first few minutes of the second quarter. Lynn tried cutting the deficit in the closing minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough to stop a tough Tars offense. Caroline Gastonguay led the team with six goals and four groundballs, while her sister Charlotte Gastonguay was right behind her with three goals. Abigail Cawley led with five assists. The Tars travel into this matchup looking to add more wins onto their season.
