Tampa Coasts by Lincoln Memorial in First Game of Tennessee Roadtrip
HARROGATE, TN. – The unanimous No. 1 ranked University of Tampa Spartans continued their dominant start to the season with a decisive victory over Lincoln Memorial.
How It Happened
- The Spartans wasted no time asserting their dominance with attackers Sophi Wrisk and Sarah Engle recording four and three goals respectively in the first quarter, setting an aggressive tone early on for the offense.
- Midfielder Payton Howell showcased her versatility, contributing three goals in the first half, facilitating a fluid and dynamic offense.
- Defensively, Tampa was impenetrable. Goalkeeper Paige Borkowski recorded two crucial saves in the first half.
- By halftime, the Spartans had established a commanding lead, outshooting the Railsplitters 18-5 and dominated draw controls, 10-3.
- The second half mirrored the first, with Tampa's offense continuing to fire on all cylinders. Sophi Wrisk added three goals in the second half, on her way to five on the day.
- The defensive unit, led by senior captain Lexi Waters, forced multiple turnovers, limiting Lincoln Memorial to just two goals in the second half on their way to a 22-4 Spartans win.
Spartans Performances
- Numerous Spartan attackers had a multi-goal game; Sarah Engle led all goal scorers with 6, Sophi Wrisk and Isabel McGarvey each had 5, Jenna Myhal (4) and Peyton Howell (3).
- Isabella Avila recorded 7 draw controls and caused 4 turnovers as well on the defensive side of the ball.
- Tampa dominated on the offensive side of the ball as they recorded 41 shots compared to Lincoln Memorial 12 shots.
