No. 1 Spartans Prepare for Top-10 Showdown Against No. 7 Indianapolis

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of Tampa women's lacrosse team continues its dominant season with another top-10 test, hosting No. 7 University of Indianapolis.

The Matchup: No. 1 University of Tampa (6-0, 0-0 SSC) vs. No. 7 University of Indianapolis (4-0, 0-0 GLVC)

Series History: Although the Spartans and Greyhounds are knotted with a record of 2-2, Tampa has lost 2 meetings in the past 3 seasons, being outscored by 4 goals in that same span. 

About the Spartans: The No. 1-ranked Spartans improved to 6-0 with a commanding 20-12 victory over No. 21 Florida Tech in a non-conference matchup. Tampa leads the Sunshine State Conference in multiple statistical categories, including goals per game (21.67), points per game (28.83), shots per game (38.83), shots on goal per game (29.33), woman-down goals (1.00), and woman-up goals (3.83). Tampa's remaining schedule is one of the toughest in the nation, featuring nine consecutive games against IWLCA top-25 opponents through April 9, including all of SSC conference play. The Spartans continue to hold the No. 1 national ranking in both the IWLCA Poll and USA Lacrosse Magazine's rankings.

About the Greyhounds: The University of Indianapolis women's lacrosse team is 4-1 on the season, earning the No. 7 rank in the country as their only loss came to SSC familial No. 10 Lynn in overtime. Moreover, the Greyhounds' most recent game was an impressive 21-0 victory over Davis & Elkins. The 2022 National Championship-winning UIndy departs this week for a tough trip to Florida, where they face No. 4 Florida Southern, No. 1 Tampa, and No. 16 Flagler, all in 5 days. Although the Greyhounds have won their Great Lakes Valley Conference each of conference's 4 years, they were narrowly edged out by Maryville by 4 points in the preseason coaches' poll before the season began.
