No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Takes Down No. 23 After Weather Delay
TAMPA, Fla. – The unanimous No. 1 ranked University of Tampa Spartans would down No. 23 Mercy after weather delay.
How It Happened
- It didn't take long for the Spartans to find their rhythm offensively as Kaylee VanVladricken and Grace Lichtenberger each scored to break open the scoring. Sophi Wrisk assisted on both plays.
- Peyton Howell and Maddie Szyluk would trade goals through the remainder of the quarter.
- Howell would go on to score a hattrick early in the second quarter. The game would enter a weather delay and later be postponed at the 13:19 mark in the second quarter.
- The Spartans would score 8 unanswered on Sunday; they dominated in all categories as they led 17-5 in draw controls, 30-22 groundballs and would outshoot Mercy in the first 17 minutes of play, 27-13.
- The game would resume on Monday afternoon but it was much of the same for the Spartans. Howell once again broke open the scoring for the Spartans which was quickly followed up by a pair of goals from the Mavericks' Kayden Meyer.
Spartans Performances
- Isabella Avila left her mark on today's game as she recorded six groundballs while also adding four caused turnovers and winning two draw controls.
- Howell would finish the game with six goals on ten shots.
- Isabel McGarvey would score a pair of goals while adding six ground balls. The Spartans had an all-around impressive game on both sides of the ball as they led in nearly every statistical category; draw controls the Spartans dominated (22-8), groundballs (21-12), clears (14-15).
- Szyluk and Christina Sato would also each tally a pair of goals a-piece.
