Spartans Lead Florida’s Strong Presence in USA Lacrosse Magazine National Rankings
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team continues to dominate the national rankings, holding the No. 1 spot in the USA Lacrosse Magazine's ranking for the sixth consecutive week and seventh time overall, including the preseason. Notably, this week's ranking does not account for Tampa's rescheduled victory over No. 23 Mercy, which was originally postponed on March 16 and played on March 18
The state of Florida is represented with six teams in the top 11 teams. Five of those programs hail from the Sunshine State Conference: No. 1 Tampa, No. 2 Florida Southern, No. 5 Lynn, No. 6 Saint Leo, and No. 7 Embry-Riddle. Along with Flagler, these teams have compiled an impressive 45-6 record, with all six losses occurring in matchups against one another.
The Spartans took down No. 23 Mercy on Monday, March 17, and now quickly turn their attention to No. 8 Pace, marking their third nationally ranked opponent in just six days. Tampa will begin Sunshine State Conference play on March 26, closing out the month with a home showdown against Florida Southern before heading on the road to face Embry-Riddle.
