Tampa Topples No. 6 Lynn in Dominant Regular Season Home Finale

TAMPA, Fla. – On Senior Day and during their annual One Love Game, the No. 1 ranked University of Tampa women's lacrosse team delivered another dominant performance, defeating No. 6 Lynn 17–8 in a top-10 Sunshine State Conference clash. With the win, the Spartans improved to 15–1 overall and 6–1 in conference play, while handing the Fighting Knights their third loss of the season.

 

How It Happened

  • Peyton Howell opened the scoring just over a minute into the game and recorded a first-quarter hat trick.
  • Tampa led 6–2 after the opening frame.
  • The Spartans closed the second quarter on a three-goal run to take an 11–4 lead into halftime.
  • Mary Kate Person scored two of her four goals in the third quarter.
  • The third quarter ended with both teams scoring three goals apiece, as Tampa maintained a 14–7 lead.
  • Chloe Gibson netted her first career goal to kick off the final quarter.
  • The Spartans scored three of the four goals in the fourth quarter to widen the gap.
  • Tampa's largest lead came at 17–7 before Lynn added a final goal in the closing minute.
  • Isabella Avila led all players with 6 draw controls, helping Tampa to a 16–12 edge in the circle.
  • The Fighting Knights became the ninth nationally ranked opponent the Spartans have defeated this season.

  • Savvy Barbosa made a career-high 14 saves, leading all goalkeepers in the match.
  • Pacing the offense, Howell finished with 10 points on 7 goals and 3 assists.
  • Sia Markowski scored once, collected 5 ground balls, and led all players with 2 caused turnovers.
  • In addition to her 4 goals, Person tied for a match-best 5 ground balls and added a caused turnover.
  • Mekelsey Montgomery, Isabel McGarvey, Maddie Szyluk, and Grace Lichtenberger each added a goal in a well-rounded scoring effort.
