Spartans Place At Annual SIRA Race
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Tampa rowing team competed in a pair of races at the 2009 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, which is regarded as one of the elite NCAA races next to the Dad Vail Regatta.
UT finished third in the Novice Four with a time of 9:01.43. Kansas won as SMU finished second. Tampa outperformed North Carolina State, Davidson and Auburn. The Spartan crew included Anna Burrell, Nickola Johnson, Sasha Jarquin, Emilee Tollefson and Nathalia Pirela Severeyn (coxswain). UT also finished fourth in the semifinals and finals.
Tampa also competed in the Lightweight Four competition. Theresa Osborne, Alicia Thompson, Caityln Guthrie, Alyssa Rodriques and Samantha Burns (coxswain) made up the team.
Tampa returns to action on April 24-25 at the Sunshine State Conference Championships in Melbourne.
