Tampa Notches a Victory At SIRA
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Tampa rowing team competed in three events at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships, enjoying record performances in the annual event.
Alyssa Rodriques, Alicia Thompson, Dana Schwarz, Caitlyn Guthrie, and Samantha Burns coxswain competed for varsity. The novice heavyweight boat was Allison Rolfe, Brianna Vaughan, Chelsea Michelson, and Pollyanna Palhano with Melissa Ciesielski coxing.
Tampa won the women's novice 4+ with a time of 8:33.80. The victory put UT over the likes of Auburn, Florida, Tulane, Tennessee and Georgia.
After finishing fourth in the novice 4+ semi, the Spartans were second in the final with a showing of 8:47.22. Florida Tech won, with UT edging Tulane and Auburn.
The Spartans return to the water on Saturday at the Sunshine State Conference championships. The event will be held at Canal 54 in Fellsmere, Fla. Rollins College will serve as the host.
