Tampa Comes Out Ahead at John Hunter Regatta
GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The University of Tampa rowing team competed at the John Hunter Regatta, winning a total of three races in a competition that featured several of the nation's top teams at all levels.
UT began the event with a sixth place finish in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+, with a time of 8:44.5.
Tampa then won the first of three as it took the Women's Collegiate JV 4+. With a time of 9:02.5, the Spartans defeated Rollins by nearly 18 seconds. UT also came in ahead of Vanderbilt, College of Charleston and Georgia.
In the Top 2+, Tampa was third after being clocked at 8:12.5. The Spartans were defeated by Georgia Tech and Clemson and finished ahead of Virginia Tech, College of Charleston and Tennessee.
A first-place finish in the Women's Collegiate Novice 4+ followed as the Spartans logged a time of 8:09.2 to top Rollins, Georgia, Georgia State, Tulane, Georgia Tech and Liberty.
Tampa then placed first in the Women's Collegiate Lightweight 4+ at 9:20.9, defeating Murray State and Northwestern State. UT was also third in the Women's Collegiate Novice 4+ as the flight four time was 8:37.1. In that race, UT finished behind Georgia Tech and Georgia.
The Spartans are back in action on April 4-5 at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) Championships in Sarasota, Fla.
