UT Notches Several First-Place Efforts at SIRA Regatta
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Tampa rowing team won several races at the annual Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships on Saturday.
The women's novice 4+ began the day with a first-place effort of 8:27.6. The Spartans outpaced Florida Tech, Wichita State, Florida, Embry-Riddle and Emory to win a cup.
UT finished fourth in the women's varsity 4+, notching a time of 8:24.0 as George Washington took first place.
In the pair, Tampa was second at 9:41.10, finishing behind Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech.
The Spartans also took a first-place effort in the women's novice lightweight 4+ final, being clocked at a time of 8:35.10. UT was ahead of boats from Florida and Nova Southeastern in the race.
Another top performance went Tampa's way in the lightweight 4+ final, with a time of 8:19.90. UT then won the novice 4+ A final, with a time of 8:25.10.
The Spartans will return home and compete at the 2014 SSC Championships on Friday in Sarasota, Fla.
