Spartans Cap 2014-15 Season at SSC Championships
SARASOTA, Fla. - The University of Tampa was among the competition as Barry University captured the 2015 Sunshine State Conference Championship on Friday morning at Nathan Benderson Park.
The regatta was hosted by Rollins at a 2,000-meter, buoyed course in picture perfect conditions.
The Buccaneers won both the varsity four and eight events and received the most points possible, 20, for their second SSC Championship in three years, sixth overall. Defending SSC Champion Nova Southeastern came in second with 15 total points. Florida Tech finished third with 10 points. Rollins came in fourth with five points and Tampa finished fifth.
In the varsity four event, Barry finished in first with a time of 8:03.3 to earn eight points. Nova Southeastern came in second with a time of 8:08.5 for six points. Florida Tech received four points for finishing third at 8:20.9. Rollins finished fourth and received the final two points at 8:28.9. Tampa placed fifth at 8:38.4.
Barry's winning time in the varsity eight event was 6:58.6 for 12 points. Nova Southeastern was again the second place finisher and received nine points with a time of 7:13.0. Florida Tech finished 10.3 seconds behind Nova Southeastern at 7:23.3 to collect six points. Rollins finished fourth with a 7:50.0 finishing time and took three points. Tampa placed fifth at 8:37.5.
By winning this year's championship, the Buccaneers are now tied with Nova Southeastern at six for most SSC titles all-time. Barry or Nova Southeastern have won the last ten conference championships.
The All-SSC Rowing Team was named following the completion of the regatta. Earning a spot on the team were:
