Rowing Season Complete Following SSC Championships
UT participates at annual race.
SARASOTA, Fla. - The University of Tampa rowing team was in action on Friday morning at the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Championships. Florida Tech was crowned as SSC champions as the Spartans finished fifth overall.
The Spartans opened the competition with a fifth-place effort in the Varsity 4. UT's team of Danielle Menchen, Sam Stewart, Marissa Henderson, Brooke Rogers and coxswain Maxie-Lew Dunn were clocked at 8:03.09 in the race.
In the next race, the Varsity 8, Tampa was sixth with a time of 8:00.80. UT's team of rowers included Bridget Maxwell, Kiara Williams, Abbie Heupel, Hanna Vernetti, Abbey Grau, Sam Schnupp, Emily Moreira, Erin Martin and coxswain Amanda Lavoie.
The SSC Women's Rowing Championship is based on a point system determined by an institutions finish in the V8 and V4 regattas, with the varsity eight receiving more points for placement of finish. This year, there were six institutions that competed for this year's points trophy.
At the awards ceremony following the race, Maxwell was honored as an all-SSC performer while Menchen earned a spot on the all-freshman team.
The 2017-18 season is now complete for the Spartans. For complete information on UT Rowing, please visit TampaSpartans.com.
