Austin, Texas - The fourth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team avenged its first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce in the final game of the St. Edwards Tournament. The Spartans return home with a 4-1 overall record.
After going down 1-0, the Spartans responded with three consecutive goals and the victory. Following the Texas A&M-Commerce goal at 10:45, Tampa freshman Jocelyn Charette found the net via Shelby Kuni. The game-winning goal took place on an unassisted Ashley Flateland goal at 33:42. Malana Winskas added the game's final goal as Kara Rasmussen was credited with the assist.
The Spartans outshot their opponent by a mark of 23-5, while limiting Texas A&M-Commerce to just one shot in the second half. Goalie Shannon Aitken earned the victory, stopping three shots in 90 minutes of action.
Tampa returns home before traveling to Lakeland for its Sunshine State Conference opener against Florida Southern on Friday, September 15 at 7:00 pm.
