TAMPA, Fla.- The number-four ranked University of Tampa Women's Soccer team handed 23rd ranked Columbus State it's first loss of the season by a score of 4-0. The Spartans move to 1-0 on the season while Columbus State drops to 0-1.
Marissa Benard started the attack at 24:33 off an assist by Alison Penland. Maria Mohammed's unassisted goal came shortly after at 20:05 to put the Spartans up 2-0. Benard answered again at 18:19, assisted by Courtney Evans and Penland, finishing the half 3-0. Freshman Laura Hammond made her first appearance of the game scoring the only goal of the second half and giving the spartans a 4-0 lead that turned out to be the final margin.
The spartans are back in action Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 2:30 pm against Nova Southeastern.
