Tobin’s Hat Trick Spoils Sailfish Upset

TAMPA, Fla.- The fifth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team used a three-goal second half comeback to defeat Palm Beach Atlantic by a score of 3-2. The Spartans improve to 9-1-1 on the season, while the Sailfish fall to 3-5 on the season.
In the first period of the game the Spartan defense folded and allowed its first goal in six games to Sailfish. Lindsey Bates was assisted by Jessica Rodriguez to put the Sailfish up 1-0 in the first period.
In the second period of the game the Spartans came out sluggish; allowing a second goal 53 seconds in the second period by Angela Kuhn to extend their lead to 2-0. Kuhn was assisted by Alex Regin.
Freshman Megan Tobin's hat trick led the Spartan comeback. Tobin's first two goals came off penalty kicks at 51st and 58th minutes of the game. Tobin hit the game winner off one of nine corner kicks by the Spartans. The assist was credited to Courtney Evans.
The Spartans had 21 shots compared to the Sailfish five shots, four coming in the first half as the Spartan defense shutdown any attempt to get across midfield. Shannon Aitken made three saves registering her ninth win of season.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Fort Lauderdale, to take on the #11 ranked Sharks of Nova Southeastern.
