ALLENDALE, Mich. - The top-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team bounced back from a Friday night loss with a 3-0 win over Ferris State University. Both teams now stand at 1-1 on the season.
UT, which started six freshmen, had a pair of goals and assists from the class. Goalkeepers Kendall Bourdon and Caitlin Fox, both freshmen, combined to shutout FSU.
Courtney Evans registered Tampa's first goal, on a cross at the seven minute mark. Evans found the left side of the net as freshman Jazmin Perry and Megan Tobin were credited with the assist.
In the second half, Perry and fellow freshman Brittan Spence each scored to put the match out of reach. Perry scored just under five minutes after halftime from Evans and freshman Ansley Waller. At 62:37, Spence found the net courtesy of teammate Lauren Hammond.
Bourdon started in goal, playing 76-plus minutes before Fox entered for the final 13 minutes. Bourdon tallied three saves as Tampa outshot Ferris State by a 20-4 mark.
The Spartans will next travel to Columbus, Ga., for a Friday night meeting with fifth-ranked Columbus State. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. UT will conclude the trip on Sunday at 11 a.m., versus #11 Tusculum in a neutral site game.
