#23 Spartans Come to Life in Second Half to Defeat Nova Southeastern
TAMPA, Fla. - The 23rd-ranked University of Tampa (6-3, 2-0 SSC) women's soccer team defeated previously unbeaten Nova Southeastern University (5-1-3, 0-1-2 SSC) by a score of 1-0 as the offense enjoyed a stellar second half performance.
After recording no shots on goal in the first half, UT notched six in the final half, including the game's lone goal by Brittney Evans. The first goal of the season for the senior from DeLand came on a breakaway from teammate Megan Tobin at 74:14.
The Spartans outshot the Sharks 12-5 for the match, while also holding a 6-4 advantage on shots on goal. Tampa also enjoyed 13 corner kicks compared to three for NSU.
Reigning Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week Kendall Bourdon held Nova scoreless in 90 minutes of action. Bourdon netted four saves while facing five shots to register her second shutout of the year. She has now recorded two straight shutouts, with both coming against SSC opponents in Saint Leo and now Nova Southeastern.
Tampa now hits the road for a pair of matches, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup at Barry on Friday night. UT will then complete its run through South Florida with a Sunday match at Lynn, which begins at 1 p.m.
