Spartans Play To Tie In Season Opener
TAMPA, Fla.--The No. 24 University of Tampa (0-0-1) women's soccer opened their season with a 2-2 tie against North Georgia University (0-0-1). Despite outshooting the Saints 20-7 over the course of the game North Georgia managed to hold Tampa to two goals.
The Spartans got on the board in the first half with a goal from sophomore Jazmin Perry in the 16th minute, while Samantha Kay was credited with the assist. The Spartans went on to score again in the 54:58 mark by an unassisted goal by freshman Sara Kneeland, registering her first goal as a Spartan.
The Saints went on a late run in the last 15 minutes, picking up two goals, one by Casey Smith and the other by Natalie Douglass. The teams played to a draw as time expired opting not to play overtime.
The Spartans take the field again on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 against Grand Valley State.
