Spartans Post Shutout To Celebrate Homecoming
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (9-4) women's soccer team had no problem with Palm Beach Atlantic University (7-3-1), handing the Sailfish a 2-0 setback at Pepin Stadium. The night also marked Homecoming for UT, with a ceremony at halftime.
UT controlled the pace throughout the contest, holding a 19-4 differential on shots. Tampa also fired 10 shots on goal while limiting the Sailfish to just one. A total of 11 Spartans were credited with a shot, including a team-high five by Luana Miessa. UT also owned a 7-1 advantage on corners.
Freshman Carolyn Simon, who netted a game-winning double overtime goal against Florida Tech in UT's previous outing, connected on the game-winner for the Spartans in the 36th minute. The goal came on a rebound of a Gabby Jolin shot that hit the top crossbar.
Tampa added an insurance goal in the second half off the foot of Pasquale Anderson. The goal marked the first of Anderson's career as the senior has been a fixture on the defensive back line. The goal, coming at 70:02, was assisted by Samantha Kay and Charlotte White.
Leah Cesanek earned the start for the Spartans in goal as the freshman finished the evening with one save to notch her sixth shutout of the year. She now stands at 9-4 on the season.
