PHILADELPHIA - The No. 14 University of Tampa (0-1) women's soccer team gave up a goal in the eighth-minute, leading to a 1-0 loss to Philadelphia University (1-0) in the 2011 season-opener for both teams.
The game-winner came from PU's Janine Cascio at the 8:19 mark as Jessica Stec was credited with the assist.
The Spartans held a 9-6 shot advantage as UT also carried a 6-4 margin on shots on goal. Senior Brittan Spence led the Spartans with three shots as her and freshman Lauren Moore each tallied two on goal.
Alexa DellaRocco and Emelie Karstrom split time in goal for UT, notching a save apiece. DellaRocco earned the start and gave up the lone score.
Tampa will face No. 4 West Chester University in a Saturday showdown between a pair of nationally-ranked squads before heading home. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. at WCU.
