UT Women Set To Host St. Leo In Season Finale
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 24 University of Tampa (10-4-2, 4-2-1 SSC) women's soccer team takes the field at Pepin Stadium for a Thursday evening match at 7:00 p.m., against the No. 6 St. Leo University Lions (14-1-1, 6-0-1 SSC). This will be Tampa's season finale, and final regular season home contest for six seniors.
Tampa is 12-2 all-time against St. Leo, beating them 1-0 on the road last season. The Spartans have won eight of the last ten games over the Lions.
Jazmin Perry, a senior forward, leads all Spartans in scoring with nine goals and 16 shots on goal. Other notable scorers this season are: freshman Jenny Karl with six goals, senior Brittan Spence with five goals and freshman Gabby Russo with four goals.
Gabby Russo is the only freshman in the nation to rank in the top-20 in assists. With 11 assists, she is seventh in total assists and ninth in assists per game. Sophomore goalkeeper Emelie Karstrom is also 22nd with a 0.58 GAA.
UT has outscored its opponents 42-11 this season. UT has gone unbeaten in its last five games and most recently defeated Nova Southeastern 2-0 on October 23rd.
St. Leo has outscored its opponents 46-13 this season. Senior defender Dari Alcantara leads all Lions in scoring with 11 goals, five assists and 22 shots on goal. Alcantara has contributed five game winners.
Another bright spot for the Lions is senior forward Pia Soesemann. Soesemann has added eight goals and three assists.Freshman goaltender Laura Carstens has allowed only seven goals in 14 starts, posting a 0.54 GAA. A Lion victory would clinch the 2011 SSC regular season title.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 (adults) and $3 (children and senior citizens). UT students will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
