MELBOURNE, Fla. - The No. 17 University of Tampa (11-1, 1-1 SSC) slipped past Florida Tech (6-3, 1-2 SSC) in a tough Sunshine State Conference road contest by a score of 1-0 at Rick Stottler Field.
"I am delighted for the players tonight after a tough game last weekend," says head coach Gerry Lucey. "Our attitude and application was excellent and a well-deserved victory. With the amount of injuries we've suffered this season including the loss of our keeper, I've been very impressed with this group."
The game was scoreless for over 75 minutes until Callie Cattaneo connected on her first goal of the season. Chelsea Martin assisted the goal as Gabby Russo played a thru ball on the goal.
Alyson Gregorowicz picked up the shutout as she finished with five saves. The Panthers outshot the Spartans 16-10, with a slight 5-4 edge on shots on goal. Russo led all Spartans with three shots as Cattaneo notched two.
Tampa will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Lynn University. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m., at Pepin Stadium. Live stats and a video broadcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
