Tampa Up Four Spots in Women’s Soccer Rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The University of Tampa women's soccer is now ranked No. 13 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II poll.
Tampa is now 11-1-1 (1-1-1 SSC) on the season and up four spots from No. 17 in last week's installment. UT has now been ranked all seven weeks this season, including five weeks in the national top-10 and three in the top-five.
UT is the lone Sunshine State Conference school in the top-25 as Rollins has dropped out after suffering a loss to Barry. Regional foe West Florida sits at No. 6 as it looks to defend its national championship crown. Grand Valley State is the nation's number-one ranked team.
Last week, Tampa defeated Florida Tech on the road by a 1-0 score. On Saturday, the Spartans played to a 2-2 draw with Lynn. Nine of UT's wins this season have come via a shutout.
Offensively, Cici Gonzalez leads all Spartans with 10 goals and four assists. The sophomore ranks 12th in the nation in goals and 17th in points. Two of her goals are game-winners as she also leads all Spartans with 69 shots and 31 shots on goal.
Emily Jones leads all Spartans with eight assists, which ranks third in the nation as she also places 10th in assists per game. Jenny Karl, Gabby Russo and Jess Frank each have six assists, ranking 18th nationally. Frank is also listed No. 18 in the nation in assists per game (0.50).
Tampa's defense has registered eight shutouts and outscored its opponents 44-7 through 13 games. Alyson Gregorowicz has stepped in for Kori Butterfield and now owns a 0.86 GAA with three shutouts. The converted senior defender also has 31 saves to lead all Spartans.
As a team, UT ranks fourth in the nation in scoring offense (3.38) and first in assists (4.08). The Spartans are also ninth in shutout percentage (.692), and 16th in GAA (0.528).
UT has now been ranked for 14 consecutive weeks. Additionally, UT has earned a mention in the poll in a total of 12 seasons, including 11 straight. Head coach Gerry Lucey is also on the verge of a personal milestone as he has 97 career wins at UT. He is already the all-time winningest coach in program history.
The Spartans play a pair of SSC road contests this week, including a Tuesday night affair at Nova Southeastern. UT also heads to Eckerd for a Saturday evening contest.
