FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The No. 13 University of Tampa (12-1-1, 2-1-1 SSC) women's soccer team benefited from an early goal and notched its 10th shutout of the season in a 1-0 Sunshine State Conference victory over Nova Southeastern University (4-7-2, 0-3-1 SSC).
The freshman duo of Chelsea Martin and Kaley Ward produced the lone goal of the evening as Martin beat the Nova keeper in the fifth minute. The score came on a cross from Ward.
The Spartans outshot the Sharks 11-6, and did not allow a shot on goal in the game. UT finished with five shots on goal. Alyson Gregorowicz was credited with her fourth shutout of the season.
Ward led all Spartans with three shots as Cici Gonzalez and Cina Salemi each had a pair. Tampa also had a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Head coach Gerry Lucey is also approaching another milestone as the program's all-time winningest coach now stands at 98 wins at Tampa.
