Spartans Secure Win Over Moccasins on Senior Night
TAMPA, Fla.- The No. 15 University of Tampa women's soccer team defeated Florida Southern College by a score of 3-0 during Wednesday night's senior night at Pepin Stadium in the final Sunshine State Conference regular season match. The Spartans honored Kori Butterfield, Cina Salemi, Shannon Walisch, Alyson Gregorowicz, and Taylor Wade for the night.
Tampa improves to 15-2-1 overall, 5-2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Florida Southern drops to 3-10-4 on the season, 1-5-1 in conference.
The Spartans were quick on the draw as forward Jenny Karl scored in the 11th minute. Midfielder Salemi took the free kick to defender Emily Jones finishing to Karl for the goal.
In the first half, the Spartans had a 5-4 shooting advantage over the Moccasins.
Karl added her second goal of the game in the second half to put Tampa up 2-0. Salemi began the drive to midfielder Gabby Russo who quickly passed it to Karl putting the ball in the back of the net.
After a Florida Southern foul, Salemi took the free kick in the 66th minute and struck the ball over the goalie's head for Tampa's third goal to finalize the score at 3-0. Salemi recorded a goal and two assists to conclude regular season play during her senior year.
Spartan keepers Gregorowicz and Katherine Marting captured two and one saves for the night, respectively. The Moccasin's Erin Moseley tallied three in the match.
