Spartans Defeat Fighting Knights on Two Moore Gonzalez Goals

The No. 13 University of Tampa (7-0-2, 1-0 SSC) women's soccer team defeated Lynn University (3-4, 0-1 SSC) with a 3-1 win to open Sunshine State Conference play.
UT opened the scoring in the seventh minute as Madison Cox found the back of the net on a header off a corner kick. Gabby Russo was credited with the assist on the goal.
Cici Gonzalez connected in the 10th minute off a cross into the box from Lauren Moore giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
Tampa outshot Lynn 16-0 in the first half while also holding a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Moore found Gonzalez again in the 56th minute giving the Spartans a 3-0 cushion in the match.
The Fighting Knights added a late goal in the final minute of play as Jordyn Turner found the back of the net on a cross from Kirstie Schults.
UT held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks while outshooting LU 29-3 in the victory.
Amber Pennybaker and Chelsea Martin also contributed to the Spartan offensive attack with seven and three shots respectively.
