Spartans Suffer First Loss of Season to Lions

The No. 12 University of Tampa (7-1-2, 1-1 SSC) women's soccer team dropped its first game of the season to Saint Leo University (6-2, 2-0 SSC) by a final score of 2-0 Wednesday night.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first half as UT goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard tallied two saves.
Tampa led 4-1 in corner kicks as Saint Leo maintained a slim 6-4 shot advantage in the period.
Katie Waddell netted the first goal of the game in the 67th minute to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
Saint Leo added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute off the foot of Arielle Kabangu to take a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans were unable to mount a comeback in the final minutes after being outshot 6-3 in the second half.
Cici Gonzalez led the Tampa offense firing three shots with two on goal. Chelsea Martin also contributed with two shots while Madison Cox and Kaley Ward each chipped in one apiece.
