Spartans Gear Up To Battle Lions

FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team is set to square off against the University of North Alabama in the second round of the NCAA South Regional on Sunday afternoon, at the UNA Soccer Field.

The No. 3 seed Tampa enters the contest sporting a record of 12-4-5, and is averaging 1.81 goals per game while posting s shots on goal percentage of .491. Defensively, opponents average 1.02 goals per game and 13.57 shot per game. The Spartans were victorious in their previous matchup, knocking off the Lee University Flames by a score of 1-0. 

North Alabama comes into the matchup with a record of 14-2-2, and currently averages 2.58 goals per game and a shots on goal percentage of .483. Defensively, UNA's opponents are averaging 0.79 goals against and 11.50 shots per game. The Lions earned a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed and will see their first action of the NCAA South Regional against Tampa. 

UT has a balanced attack, as senior Cici Gonzalez leads all Spartans with 12 goals. Also making significant contributions to the offensive effort is Nastasia Asgedom, Korey O'Rourke, Lauren Cicero and Lauren Moore, who have each netted a combined 18 goals in 2015. Also serving as catalyst's for UT is Gabby Scirica and Miranda Gonzalez, who have both tallied seven assists on the year. 

Defensively, Caroline Frykgard and the talented defensive unit has been a force to be reckoned with as, Frykgard has accumulated 95 saves on the campaign and boasts a 0.89 goals against average and a save percentage of .841. The talented group of defenders includes Jess Moreno, Sarah Raymond, Audrey Hayward, and Ali Robinson. 

Kickoff is set for a 3 p.m. start. There will be live stats, and a broadcast will be available for fans to follow at home.
