Asgedom Earns SSC Women’s Soccer Offensive Honors
Freshman Nastasia Asgedom was named the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - After leading the Spartan offense to a 2-0 week, University of Tampa midfielder Nastasia Asgedom garnered Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced Monday by the conference office.
Asgedom was the offensive catalyst for Tampa, as the freshman had a foot in each of the four goals scored between the two contests, scoring two goals while notching assists on the other pair.
In a 2-1 upset over No. 3 Columbus State, Asgedom netted the first goal of the game at the 3:49' mark off a through ball from Gabby Scirica. Later that same contest, the Tampa, Fla. native assisted the game-winner on a pass to Cici Gonzalez in the 70' mark to stun the Lakers and pick up a crucial win.
The midfielder sparked another 2-1 victory, this time over the University of West Florida. The freshman scored the first goal of the contest to open the second half of play, netting her third goal of the season behind a pass from Korey O'Rourke. Asgedom assisted another Cici Gonzalez game-winner with just six minutes left in the contest.
The Tampa women's soccer team will open up SSC play with a road contest against Nova Southeastern University on Sept. 19, slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
