Spartans Square-off With No.7 Buccaneers
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Spartans women's soccer team is gearing up for an exciting weekend Sunshine State Conference matchup as they welcome the No. 7 Barry Buccaneers on Saturday at 7 p.m., at Pepin Stadium.
Tampa enters the contest with a record of 8-2-2, and a 4-1 mark in SSC play. UT picked up the win in its last match, as they showed off their offensive firepower defeating the Tritons 3-1.
Barry comes into the game sporting a record of 9-2 and a 5-1 tally in conference play. Last time out, BU knocked off No. 16 Rollins College 1-0.
Tampa's offense is averaging 1.833 goals per game on the season, which ranks fifth in the SSC. Leading the charge for the Spartans is senior Cici Gonzalez, who's tallied seven goals and one assist on the year. Also chipping in contributions for the squad is Korey O'Rourke, Nastasia Asgedom, Gabby Scirica, and Lauren Moore, who have each netted two or more goals respectively.
Goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard and the defense have been playing stout all season as they are third in the conference, boasting a 1.03 goals against average, and rank third in the conference in save percentage (.819). Holding downTampa's backline is Jess Moreno, Miranda Gonzalez and Sarah Raymond.
The Spartans trail in the series all-time against the Buccaneers 9-13-2, with Barry winning the last meeting in 2014 on PK's after double overtime.
