Tampa Slated To Host Saint Leo For Senior Night
TAMPA. Fla - The Tampa Spartans women's soccer team will battle the Saint Leo Lions Wednesday night at Pepin Stadium marking the final Sunshine State Conference home match of the campaign.
Tampa enters the contest with a record of 8-2-3, and a 4-1-1 mark in SSC play. UT earned a draw in its last match, battling the No. 7 Barry Buccaneers to a 1-1 tie ending in double-overtime.
Saint Leo comes into the game sporting a record of 6-6-1 and a 2-3 tally in conference play. Last time out, SLU dropped a double overtime thriller to the Embry-Riddle Eagles 2-1.
Tampa's offense is averaging 1.769 goals per game on the season, which ranks fifth in the SSC. Leading the charge for the Spartans is senior Cici Gonzalez, who's tallied seven goals and one assist on the year. Also chipping in contributions for the squad is Korey O'Rourke, Nastasia Asgedom, Gabby Scirica, and Lauren Moore, who have each netted two or more goals respectively.
Goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard and the Spartans' defense have been playing stout all season as they are third in the conference, boasting a 1.01 goals against average, and lead the conference in save percentage (.831). Holding down Tampa's backline is Audrey Hayward, Jess Moreno, Miranda Gonzalez and Sarah Raymond.
The UT leads the series all-time against SLU 16-4, with the Lions winning the last meeting in 2014 2-0.
