
Spartans Set to Battle SEU Fire in Home Opener
Tampa will finally be back on the field after having multiple games postponed due to weather
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team is ready for their first home game of the season as they welcome in the Southeastern University Fire for a Sunday night clash. UT played three games in North Carolina prior to having the most recent trio of games postponed due to Hurricane Irma. The Fire in the meantime come into this match with a 5-0-0 record including a milestone victory over then-No. 12 Reinhardt University Eagles, 1-0 for the first win over a NAIA ranked opponent in program history.

About the Spartans: Tampa is off to a strong start to the 2017 campaign after going 2-0-1 in their first three games on the road in North Carolina. UT took down Belmont Abbey 2-1 in overtime to open the season, snapping the Crusaders 25 game home unbeaten streak. After a 1-1 2OT draw at Queens, the team came from behind to beat Wingate 2-1 in regulation, snapping another streak as Wingate had a 24 game home unbeaten streak coming into the match. Freshman Erika Peitersen leads the team with three goals, scoring twice in her career debut against BAU and adding another tally at Queens. Junior Nastasia Asgedom scored both tallies at Wingate to lead the comeback. Asgedom, Emily Cady, and Mack Beidleman have all recorded one assist to tie for the team lead in that category. In goal, senior goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard has played all 291 minutes and comes into the match with a 0.93 GAA and a 0.824 save percentage.
About the Fire: The Southeastern University Fire are part of the Sun Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Their highlight win of the season is their 1-0 upset of No.12 Reinhard University on August 30th. This season they are off to an undefeated start at 5-0-0 and have 20 goals in favor to just two goals against. Uchenna Kanu leads the team offensively with 11 goals scored and four assists. In goal, Sydni Brookhouser has played the majority of the minutes this season, giving up one goal and recording nine saves on 15 shots faced.
Series History: These two programs have met once before, playing in Tampa in 2014, with UT coming out on top 7-0.
