Spartans Set For SSC Opener Against Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team will kick off conference play with a highly anticipated nightcap versus SSC rival Barry.
The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (0-4) vs. Barry Buccaneers (0-3)
Date/Time: Saturday, September 21 at 6 p.m.

About the Spartans: Tampa has had a slow start to the 2019 season with a pair of one-goal losses along with two defeats against top 15 opponents (Mississippi College and Colombus State). The Spartans have allowed three goals in each of the four games played so far this season. The Tampa women's team has played disciplined throughout the year and has 0 yellow or red cards to date. However, the team has struggled on the offensive third and has only 6 corner kicks through the four games played. Moeko Morse leads the team with two goals scored. She also leads the team in shots (12), and is tied for the lead in shots on goal (6).
About the Buccaneers: Barry has also had a pointless start to the season with three losses in their first three games played. Most recently, Barry was shut-out home, 2-0, by Tusculum on Friday, September 13. The Buccaneers also faced #4 Columbus State, and were outmatched, losing 8-2. On eight days rest Barry will look to regain form as every SSC matchup is highly important. Barry is led by head coach Sarah Dacey who commanded a Buccaneer's squad in 2018 to a 16-1-1 record. Barry has 10 freshmen on the team this season as compared to 5 seniors. Sophomore Ellen Cederin leads Barry with a goal and an assist through three games. The sophomore from Sweeden had four goals and four assists during her freshman campaign in 2018.
All-Time Series: Barry leads the all-time series against Tampa with 19 wins, 9 losses, and 3 ties for the Buccaneers. Tampa has failed to defeat Barry in the last 10 contests. The Buccaneers have won seven of the last ten, with three draws. The last victory for the Spartans occured in September, 2013. The last game between the two occurred on October 6th, 2018, in Miami Shores. Barry edged out Tampa 1-0. Tampa failed to record a shot on goal in the match. Barry recorded 10 shots on goal, and goalkeeper Megan Bromwell made 9 saves.
Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. Students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT ID.
