
Reni Taiwo Named SSC Defensive Player of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. - University of Tampa women's soccer defender Reni Taiwo was recognized as the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Defensive Player of the Week, her first career Player of the Week award.
Taiwo received Defensive Player of the Week honors after proving to be an essential part of the Spartans defense, totaling 180 minutes this week. Taiwo anchored the backline against Eckerd, allowing only 12 shots in 90 minutes, less than Eckerd's season average of 14 shots per game. The Spartan defense with a strong performance again in their matchup Saturday against the Embry-Riddle Eagles, keeping their shots to ten, again less than their season average of 13.
Sunshine State Conference athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of September 20 – 26, 2021. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
