TAMPA, Fla. – The #11 ranked Tampa Spartans traveled to Colorado-Colorado Springs for the first match of a three game road trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF: In the early stages of this match, the Spartan defense would be heavily tested. Colorado-Colorado Springs came out in full attack mode, earning 6 corners and multiple scoring chances in just the first 20 minutes. However, the Spartan defense continued their dominant start to the season, weathering the storm and allowing goalkeeper Aidan Smith to cleanly play every ball sent her way. By the 35th minute of the first half, the Spartans had found their footing and began pushing the ball up into the attacking third on almost every possession. Despite a few offensive opportunities for both teams in the final ten minutes, the match would stay scoreless going into the break.

SECOND HALF: To begin the final 45 minutes the Spartans came out with a punch as they quickly earned their best two chances of the afternoon in the attacking third. However the Mountain Lions were able to match the stellar defense of the Spartans and keep the match scoreless. Colorado-Colorado Springs would regain their momentum towards the middle of the second half and once again the Spartans would be under siege. The Spartan back line would continue to hold strong and keeper Aidan Smith would make two clean saves to keep the Mountain Lions at bay. Although the Spartans were unable to find the back of the net, their consistent strong defensive play once again shined as the match ended in a draw.

INSIDE THE STATS:
- Aidan Smith totaled three saves.
- Seven players totaled a full 90 minute game.
- The 3-0-1 Spartans have yet to concede a goal this season and for the second straight season shutout their first four opponents.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will stay in Colorado for one more match before heading back to the sunshine state. Tampa will travel to nearby Colorado State-Pueblo on Wednesday, September 18th with kickoff scheduled for 9:00pm ET.
